Supply chain management software for Saudi Arabia should connect demand planning, purchasing, imports, transfers between branches and outbound shipping in one system. Odoo does this with Purchase, Inventory, the Master Production Schedule and carrier connectors, so buyers, warehouse teams and finance work from the same orders, supplier records and costs.
Summary answer: In Odoo, the supply chain runs as one chain of linked documents. Demand comes from sales forecasts, reordering rules or the Master Production Schedule (MPS), which plans purchase and manufacturing orders against forecast quantities. Buyers send requests for quotation, compare alternative quotes from several vendors and use blanket orders for contracted prices. Vendor pricelists hold each supplier’s price, minimum quantity and lead time. Goods can be shipped from a vendor straight to the customer (dropship), moved between warehouses with resupply routes, or sold between companies in the same database with inter-company rules. Outbound shipments can use built-in connectors for DHL Express, FedEx and UPS. Purchase orders carry Incoterms and foreign currencies for imports. Each vendor shows an on-time delivery rate, and purchase analysis reports show spend, prices and delays, so supplier performance is measured from real receipts rather than impressions.
The supply chain as one flow
Supply chain software is often sold as a separate product: one tool for planning, another for purchasing, a third for shipping. Each hand-off between them is a place where data goes stale. In Odoo, the same purchase order that a buyer confirms becomes the receipt the warehouse scans, the vendor bill finance pays and the data point in the supplier report.
The table shows which Odoo app covers each stage and what it produces.
| Stage | Odoo app or feature | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Plan demand | Sales forecasts, reordering rules, Master Production Schedule | Suggested purchase and manufacturing orders |
| Source | Purchase: RFQs, alternatives, blanket orders, vendor pricelists | Confirmed purchase orders |
| Import and receive | Purchase and Inventory: Incoterms, currencies, receipts | Stock received at the right cost |
| Move | Inventory routes, inter-warehouse resupply, inter-company rules | Transfers between branches and companies |
| Deliver | Inventory delivery orders, dropship, carrier connectors | Shipments with tracking numbers |
| Measure | Purchase analysis, vendor on-time rate, dashboards | Supplier and spend reports |

Demand planning and the Master Production Schedule
Good purchasing starts with a realistic view of demand. Odoo gives you three planning tools, and most companies use more than one.
Reordering rules for steady demand
For products that sell at a predictable rate, a minimum and maximum stock level per warehouse is enough. Odoo compares forecast stock with the minimum and suggests a purchase order when it drops below.
The Master Production Schedule for planned demand
The Master Production Schedule is a planning grid that shows forecast demand, planned replenishment and projected stock for each product, week by week or month by month. Planners enter forecasts, and Odoo calculates how much to buy or make in each period. Replenishing from the grid creates a purchase order or a manufacturing order, depending on the product’s route.
The MPS is enabled in the Manufacturing app settings. It is useful for seasonal peaks that Saudi businesses know well, such as Ramadan, Eid and the back-to-school period, when a minimum stock level alone reacts too late.
Make-to-order for one-off demand
For special orders, the replenish-on-order (MTO) route creates a purchase order as soon as the sales order is confirmed, linked to that customer order.
Procurement: RFQs, alternatives and blanket orders
Vendor pricelists and lead times
Each product can list several vendors, each with its own price, currency, minimum quantity, validity dates and delivery lead time. When Odoo creates a purchase order, it picks the vendor line that fits the quantity and date. This is where most procurement accuracy is won or lost, so keep these lines current.
Comparing quotes with alternative RFQs
When Purchase Agreements are enabled, a buyer can create alternative requests for quotation for the same need, send them to several vendors and compare the replies side by side by price and delivery date. Odoo keeps the chosen order and cancels the others, so the audit trail shows that quotes were compared.
Blanket orders for contracted suppliers
A blanket order records a contract with a supplier: agreed products, prices and a validity period. Buyers then raise individual purchase orders against it, and Odoo tracks how much of the agreed quantity has been ordered. This suits annual supply contracts for packaging, spare parts or raw materials.
Approval limits
Purchase settings include an order approval option with a minimum amount. Orders above that amount need a manager’s approval before they are sent, which gives finance control without slowing small, routine buying. More complex approval chains can be added with Odoo customization.
Dropshipping and buying to order
Not every sale has to pass through your warehouse. With the dropship route, a confirmed sales order creates a purchase order to the supplier, who ships directly to your customer. Odoo records the movement from vendor to customer without touching your own stock, and the customer invoice and vendor bill are still linked to the same order.
Dropshipping works well for bulky items, low-volume catalogue lines and products a supplier already holds in the Kingdom. It cuts handling cost, but you depend on the supplier’s delivery time, so check their on-time rate before moving a product line to dropship.
Transfers between branches and companies
Inter-warehouse resupply
A warehouse can be set to resupply from another warehouse. A branch then raises its replenishment needs, and Odoo creates a transfer from the central warehouse instead of a purchase order. Goods in transit stay visible, and each branch keeps its own reordering rules.
Inter-company transactions
Many Saudi groups run several legal entities, for example a trading company and a separate retail company. With Odoo’s multi-company features, inter-company rules can create the matching document automatically: a purchase order in one company produces a sales quotation in the other, and stock moves can be synchronized. Each company keeps its own accounts and VAT records.
Multi-company use requires the Custom plan. At the time of writing (November 2026), Odoo’s pricing page lists it at US$32.00 per user per month billed yearly, against US$16.90 for the Standard plan.
Shipping carriers and delivery
Odoo’s documentation lists built-in shipping connectors for DHL Express, FedEx and UPS that work in all regions, including Saudi Arabia. Once a carrier account is connected, Odoo can calculate shipping rates on the sales order, print the carrier label from the delivery order and save the tracking number on the shipment. Other connectors on that list, such as USPS, Shiprocket or Sendcloud, are limited to other countries and do not apply to shipments from the Kingdom.
Many Saudi businesses also use local couriers and their own delivery fleets. Those are not built-in connectors, so they are handled in one of two ways: a fixed or rule-based delivery method in Odoo (price by weight, zone or order value), or a custom API connection to the courier. Our Odoo integration services cover that kind of work.
Imports, freight and customs
Much of the stock sold in Saudi Arabia is imported, which adds currency, freight terms and customs to the supply chain. Odoo handles the system side as follows:
- Foreign-currency purchase orders. Buy in USD, EUR, CNY or any other currency. Odoo converts to SAR at the exchange rate on the relevant date.
- Incoterms on the purchase order. Record whether the price is EXW, FOB, CIF or another term, so everyone knows who pays freight and insurance.
- Realistic lead times. Enter vendor lead times that include sea or air freight and clearance, not just the supplier’s production time.
- Landed costs. Add freight, insurance and customs duties to the cost of the received goods, so margins reflect the true cost.
In Saudi Arabia, customs is administered by ZATCA, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. Duty rates and import procedures depend on the product and its tariff code. Odoo records what you pay; it does not file customs declarations. Your customs broker and tax adviser should confirm the rates and VAT treatment for each product line. For the accounting side of import VAT, see our guide to Odoo accounting in Saudi Arabia.
Supplier performance and dashboards
Each vendor record in Odoo shows an on-time rate: the share of ordered quantities received on or before the expected date over the last 365 days. It is calculated from real receipts, so buyers can discuss delays with suppliers using facts.
The Purchase analysis report adds spend by vendor, product and period, average purchase prices, quantities ordered versus received and billed, and lead time. Useful views for a supply chain manager include:
- Top vendors by spend this quarter, compared with last year.
- Products where the average purchase price rose more than a set percentage.
- Late receipts, grouped by vendor.
- Open purchase orders not yet received or billed.
Any report can be saved as a favorite, grouped, exported or added to a dashboard. Scored supplier ratings with weighted criteria are not standard, and need customization or a third-party app.
Rolling out supply chain software in Saudi Arabia
A supply chain project touches buyers, warehouse staff, finance and often sales. Doing everything at once is the most common cause of a messy go-live. A phased plan works better:
- Purchase and receiving first. Vendors, pricelists, lead times, purchase orders and receipts, linked to vendor bills.
- Replenishment next. Reordering rules per warehouse, then MPS for products with seasonal or planned demand.
- Branches and companies. Resupply routes and, for groups, inter-company rules.
- Shipping and imports. Carrier connectors, delivery methods, Incoterms and landed costs.
- Reporting. Supplier dashboards once there are a few months of clean data.

Frequently asked questions
What is supply chain management software?
It is software that plans demand, buys from suppliers, receives and moves stock, and ships to customers, with reports on cost and supplier performance. In Odoo these steps run in Purchase, Inventory and Manufacturing in one database, so each order links to the next document in the chain.
Does Odoo support procurement approvals?
Yes. Purchase settings include an order approval option with a minimum amount, so orders above that amount need a manager's approval before they are sent to the vendor. Smaller routine orders go straight through. More complex, multi-level approval chains can be added through customization.
Can Odoo compare quotes from several suppliers?
Yes. With Purchase Agreements enabled, buyers create alternative requests for quotation for the same need, send them to several vendors and compare prices and delivery dates side by side. Odoo keeps the chosen order and cancels the others, leaving an audit trail.
Which shipping carriers connect to Odoo in Saudi Arabia?
Odoo's documentation lists built-in connectors for DHL Express, FedEx and UPS that work in all regions. Local couriers and in-house fleets are not built in; they can be handled with rule-based delivery methods priced by weight or zone, or connected through a custom API integration.
Can Odoo handle transfers between our own companies?
Yes, with multi-company and inter-company rules. A purchase order in one company can automatically create a sales quotation in the other, and stock moves can be synchronized. Multi-company use requires Odoo's Custom plan, listed at US$32.00 per user per month billed yearly in November 2026.
Does Odoo file customs declarations in Saudi Arabia?
No. Odoo records purchase prices, Incoterms, currencies and landed costs such as freight and customs duties, so stock is valued correctly. Customs declarations are handled with ZATCA, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, through your customs broker, who should confirm duty rates for each product.
How does Odoo measure supplier performance?
Each vendor shows an on-time rate based on quantities received on or before the expected date over the last 365 days. The Purchase analysis report adds spend, average prices, lead times and ordered versus received quantities. Weighted supplier scorecards need customization or a third-party app.
