Choosing the approach
Configuration, Odoo Studio or Custom Code: Which Do You Need?
Use the simplest option that meets the requirement, because every line of custom code has to be maintained and upgraded.
We recommend an approach for each requirement during the fit-gap step and explain the trade-offs in cost and upkeep.
Configuration
Settings, workflows, taxes, reports and access rights that the standard Odoo apps already provide. No code, and nothing extra to upgrade.
Odoo Studio
Part of Odoo Enterprise: add fields, change views and create automation rules without code. Good for simple changes your own team can make.
Custom module
Needed for new business logic, complex calculations, new data models or interface changes. Runs on Odoo.sh or your own servers, not on Odoo Online.
Integration
Needed when data must flow between Odoo and another system. New integrations use the External JSON-2 API.
Custom report
Needed when a document must follow a fixed layout, such as a branded invoice, a delivery slip or a regulatory form.
Automation
Automated and scheduled actions, from rules set up in the interface to Python code in a module.
UAE e-invoicing
What Does UAE E-Invoicing Mean for Custom Code?
Custom modules that create or change invoices need checking before e-invoicing starts. Invoices must carry complete, structured data for your Accredited Service Provider, so custom flows should write to standard invoice fields. The timetable:
- 1 July 2026: pilot with selected businesses, and voluntary adoption opens;
- 1 January 2027: mandatory for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more;
- 1 July 2027: mandatory for businesses with revenue below AED 50 million;
- 1 October 2027: mandatory for government entities;
- How it works: invoices are exchanged in the PINT AE format over the Peppol network through an Accredited Service Provider that each business appoints, and invoice data is reported to the Federal Tax Authority.

Which UAE Features Should Custom Code Build On?
Odoo already covers much of what UAE businesses need. We build on the standard localisation instead of replacing it, so your code stays smaller and upgrades stay simpler.
VAT
VAT and the VAT201 return
Odoo’s UAE localisation sets up 5% standard-rated, zero-rated, exempt and reverse-charge VAT, and builds the VAT201 return in the FTA’s format for filing on EmaraTax. See the Odoo UAE documentation.
Corporate Tax
Corporate Tax reporting
Odoo’s corporate tax report shows net profit, exempt income, allowable deductions and disallowed expenses. Odoo ships no default tax categories, so accounts are tagged during set-up with your accountant.
Payroll

How Much Does Custom Odoo Development Cost in the UAE?
It depends on scope. A small enhancement such as a new field, report or automation is usually a short piece of work; a new module or a two-way integration takes longer and is often delivered in phases.

What are Odoo development services in the UAE?

What is the difference between Odoo customization and Odoo development?
Customization adapts what Odoo already has, mostly with configuration and Studio. Development writes new code, such as a custom module or integration, when the requirement goes beyond what Studio can do.
Can custom modules run on Odoo Online?
No. Odoo Online does not allow custom Python modules. Projects that need custom code run on Odoo.sh or on your own servers.
Should custom code replace Odoo’s UAE VAT logic?
Rarely. Odoo’s UAE localisation already handles VAT taxes, the VAT201 return and corporate tax reporting. We build custom features around it so tax reports stay correct and upgrades stay simple.
Do custom invoice modules need changes for UAE e-invoicing?
They need checking. From 2027, invoices are exchanged in a structured format through an Accredited Service Provider, so custom code that creates invoices must fill the standard invoice and tax fields your provider reads.
Can you build Arabic and English reports?
Yes. We build QWeb reports in Arabic, English or a bilingual layout, including tax invoices, delivery slips and custom certificates, with your branding.
How do you integrate Odoo with other systems?
